Welcome to Imhoteps Fall 2009 Training Curriculum!
What is the Imhotep Curriculum |
|
Our staff Directors have developed a season long training plan to ensure that our players receive proper instruction in all aspects-of-game:
1)tactical-concepts/game-sitations(cornerkicks,freekicks,team-shape,throw-ins,etc)
2)technicalskills(dribbling,shooting,passing,receiving/trapping)
3)rules-of-thegame
4) physical training
5)Mental Preparation/Visualization |
|
How will each of these areas be covered? |
|
Tactical-concepts/game-situations:
Each week, the entire club will focus on a single tactical concept. During the first practice of the week, players will review the concept from an attacking perspective. During the second practice of the week, players will learn how to defend against that game situation.
For example, if a team practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays; on Tuesday the team will focus on scoring off corner kicks. On Thursday, players will learn how to mark-up on corners, how to cover the goal and general defensive tips.
The club does recommend that coaches deviate from this program if a team is relatively weak in other tactical areas.
Players will have access and the responsibility to review material, and tips prior to practice. The material will explain how Imhotep Players are expected to perform under those situations.
Parents are also encouraged to view this material. It will help support our players development and also help our parents understand their child’s development.
Technical/Skills:
A set of suggested drills will be posted for each training session. Our Directors have selected a set of drills that ensure that all technical aspects are addressed as the season progresses. The club does recommend that coaches deviate from this program if a team is relatively weak in other technical areas. Further, coaches may have some unique drills of their preference.
Players may be requested to set-up and explain the drills posted on our website to their team-mates. This is done in the spirit that all of our players are leaders, captains and coaches in the making.
Rules-of-the-Game:
To complement the tactical topic of the week, our staff will post the relevant rules for that game situation. For example, if the tactical topic is corner kicks, in this section the player can find all of the relevant rules pertaining to a corner kick.
Physical-training:
Players will find guidelines with the club’s expectation regarding their physical conditioning. To aid the player in attaining these goals, a homework section will outline a running schedule and complementary exercises. |
Objective of the Imhotep Curriculum:
|
|
To instill the fundamentals of soccer so as to ensure that all Imhotep players learn the technical and tactical skills required to excel in Middle School, Soccer Club Teams, High School soccer, College and as a life-long participant of the sport. |
Motivation/Mental Preparedness
|
|
A player can be an excellent athlete (fast, strong, quick) and have excellent technique (ball control, a great shot) but more often than one thinks, such players find themselves with limited playing time or simply under-achieving their potential in soccer. The true mark of a great soccer player is their understanding of the tactical concepts (rules of the game, positioning, movement without the ball, marking, etc). The beauty of soccer is that it truly rewards players that take the time to understand the game as a whole.
It is the club's goal and priority to make of every Imhotep Player a coach within the soccer field. In soccer, every player is a quarterback. Every player has to be ready to make the right call and lead teammates when the action is in their terrain. For example: for a right full back it may mean that he/she has to organize the wall to defend a free kick that is taking place on his/her side of the field. Any player taking a corner kick needs to signal when and where the kick will land..... and so on. Each player is a captain and has to be ready to lead the team. |
Structure of the Curriculum
|
|
The curriculum spans for ten weeks: two weeks of pre-season and 8 weeks of competition. For each training session, material-will-be-broken-down-in-the-following-sections:
1)Tactical-Concepts/Game-Situations
2)Technical-Skills
3)Rules-of-the-Game
4) Homework |
